Learning The Difference Between E-Cig Cartridges and Cartomizers

Any electronic cigarette smoker will tell you that the term “refill cartridge” can mean many things. Whether you’re new to this hobby or you’re a seasoned pro, there are some differences that you should know about when discussing a cartridge and cartomizer. Since each one can offer their own advantages and disadvantages, here are some things that you should know:

What Are They?

Many of the older electronic cigarettes that were created around 2010 and 2011 used this kind of technology. The problem with a cartridge is that they tend to wear away faster and are considered to be older technology. This is a problem for those who tend to smoke a lot throughout the day.

How to Spot a Cartridge

It’s easy to spot an electronic cigarette that has a cartridge installed instead of a cartomizer. Simply flip the bottom over and take a close look. If you see an opening and not a thread, it’s safe to safe that there is a cartridge installed. Instead of that opening, you should see a slightly small sponge that can be replaced.

The Downfalls of Cartridges

The problem with cartridges is that they are very cheap to produce. With these cheap production costs, many smokers find that they just don’t work well. On average, a cartridge can only produce a half-pack of cigarettes, which is a lot less than what a cartomizer can produce. Not only can these cartridges produce less, they are often deemed unreliable.

What Are They?

With most of today’s electronic cigarettes, you’re going to more than likely find a cartomizer installed. Instead of using a cartridge, a cartomizer will use a cartridge and atomizer combined, and it will also include its own heating element. They are deemed very reliable and can produce a lot more liquid compared to a cartridge.

How to Spot a Cartomizer

Unlike the cartridge, a cartomizer will have a screw threading on the bottom of the cigarette. Instead of everything being exposed, you simply have to unscrew the bottom to get access to the cartomizer inside.

What is Best?

With most cartridges being replaced by cartomizers, it’s important to know how much better a cartomizer is. Sure, while a cartridge can still be found, it’s best that you spend the extra dollars to upgrade. Cartomizers last longer, they are environmental friendly and you won’t even tell differences from the older cartridges.
